First containers arriving from Xi'an, China, were unloaded at the Port of Rostock. Loaded with electrical appliances, car parts and other consumer goods, they reached Europe after a 10k km long journey to be transferred from ship to rail by EUROPORTS Germany via Liebherr's mobile harbour cranes.

The terminal operator plans to expand Rostock into a distribution centre, thus the recent purchase of new equipment. In addition to container and general cargo handling, the cranes are also used for heavy-duty tandem lifts. With a capacity of up to 144 tonnes per unit, tandem lifts of up to 288 tonnes are possible. Further plans exist to connect Sweden and Italy to the New Silk Road link.

EURPORTS Germany's staff underwent extensive training offered by the equipment manufacturer. Maintenance work was explained and the actual handling of various goods under different conditions tested using Liebherr's LiSIM simulator.
