Italy
The Italian Port of Savona, constituing with Genoa and La Spezia the Ligurian Ports Alliance (LPA), has a strong position as the fruit trader in Mediterranean Sea region and is Italy's top 4th cruise harbour.
About 20 stevedores in Savona handle a wide range of goods: both imports and exports of cars, steel and iron, wine and vegetal oil, cement, agribulk, coal and coke as well as forest products. Since 2003, Costa Cruises has been operating a passenger terminal with 1.4 mln travellers in 2014.
It has a fast road connection to Piedmont and to other Northern Italy regions via the A6 Savona-Turin motorway. Moreover, the port is rail-linked to the domestic network and two international railway lines. The port authority is currently focused on the construction of the new container terminal planned to be finished in 2017 and to be operated by APM Terminals since then.
