However, both container and ro-ro traffic, Zeebrugge’s main business areas, rose last year.

On the other hand, turnover of liquids went down by 27.3% yoy to 842.9 thou. tn. General cargo contracted, too, by 7.8% yoy to 1,070.95 thou. tn.

In total, the port handled 1.5m TEU, noting an increase by 8.7% year-on-year. Measured in tonnes, containerised freight amounted to nearly 15.38mt (+6.5% yoy).

At the same time, wheeled cargo made over 14.96mt (+4.3% yoy). The port’s finished vehicle logistics sector saw an increase, too, up by 2% yoy to 2.83m vehicles.
