Port merger of Trelleborg and Ystad returns on the table

The municipalities of Trelleborg and Ystad are going to carry out a preliminary study to explore the prospects for managing the two seaports through one port company.

A similar inquiry was brought forth five years ago, but Trelleborg eventually withdrew from the discussion out of political disagreement.

"We stand in front of considerable challenges and investments. Together we have bigger opportunities to handle them. Whereas two small ports face the risk of being played against each other, cooperation can strengthen our competitive position," Kristina Bendz, Municipal Commissioner, Ystad, said.
