The port of Esbjerg, found in 1868, is located on the south west coast of Jutland. Once the biggest fishing harbour in Denmark, today it is Europe's leading port for shipping offshore wind turbines. For about 40 years, the port has taken part in the oil and gas activities in the Danish sector of the North Sea, later becoming a leader within the competences of handling green forms of energy.

Seven out of harbour's 21 quays are specialized in servicing offshore and have been constructed with an extra capacity for carrying heavy goods without any hindrances so that freight can be effectively passed between the quays and the vessels. Other kinds of cargo handled in the port include dry bulk, project cargo and roro. Regular liner services provide connections between Esbjerg and other European ports in Scandinavia, British Isles, the Netherlands, France and the Mediterranean Region. From the land, the harbour can be reached by E20 motorway as well as rail, which lead to other parts of Europe through Germany and Sweden.
