Hyundai Mipo Dockyard (HMD) won a €85m newbuilding order for four 1.8k TEU container carriers from the Taiwanese shipping line Evergreen Marine Corporation.
The vessels, each 172 m long, 27.4 m wide and 14.3 m high when completed, will be built HMD's yard in Ulsan, South Korea. They will be delivered sequentially, starting 2021.
These new ships will adopt the 'Con-Green' design, developed by HMD in conjunction with MAN Energy Solutions and DNV GL, aimed at maximizing operational efficiency and economics. They will meet the requirements of the Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) "phase 3" (from January 1, 2025 onward), one of the pillars of IMO's greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction strategy.
It is the 32nd newbuilding order for the 'Con-Green' since last year.
According to a source at HMD, it is the first contract directly scored by the shipyard with a Taiwanese shipping company. Plans exist to further focus on medium-sized container ship deliveries.
