The Port of Hamburg's largest container terminal, Burchardkai, has prolonged the contract to use INFORM's software to manage and optimize all transport orders.
The software has already been optimizing container moves between water and land via automatic yard blocks as well as terminal's manual container yard (since 2009). The agreement is effective for five years and provides a mechanism for close collaboration between both parties for future system release and possible system enhancements, including 24/7 support.
"We are highly satisfied with the stability of INFORM's optimization software as well as their efficient incident handling. In combination with INFORM's 24/7 support, there was no major breakdown in all the years," Andreas Hollmann, Managing Director at Container Terminal Burchardkai, said.
Eva Savelsberg, SVP Logistics Division at INFORM, added; "We are very delighted about this long-term sign of confidence. Once more, Container Terminal Burchardkai gave us the opportunity to prove the quality of our optimization software and prove how important it is to have such technology for optimized terminal control."
In addition, INFORM and HHLA already cooperating on gradually increasing the terminal's capacity from 2.6 to 5.2 mln TEU per year. It will also ensure the terminal is ready to serve mega ships. Additional fully automatic yard blocks are being added to the container yard; 10 are already in operation, and another two are near completion. They'll replace part of the former yard, which is being served by manned straddle carriers.
The straddle carriers will continue to be used to move containers to the new yard blocks once the project has been completed. Additionally, INFORM has delivered software enhancements that support twin straddle carrier operations, optimizing fleet's ability to move two load units at a time.
