The Finnish port and the Belgian company specialising in crane rental services, heavy lifting, and engineered transport will extend their 2016 Kazakhstan project.

Two years ago, the Port of HaminaKotka and Sarens Group started working on project cargo shipments involving 70x16x11 m-big and 1,500-1,800t-heavy modules that arrived in Hamina and then were transhipped onto barges for further transportation along Russian inland waterways all the way to the final destination in Kazakhstan.

The two parties are now expanding the €20m-worth co-op up to €46m. Among other things, the Port of HaminaKotka will buy for €3.0m a warehouse and subsequently demolish it to make room for storing the modules.

Sarens will bring about 150 logistic experts to Hamina during the project's duration, while according to the port authority some 50 local people will be additionally employed to contribute to the project.
