The network organization acquired the Maas, a 110 m long inland container vessel, which will be retrofitted to run on hydrogen.
The final design of the zero-emission propulsion system will be finished once profiling exercises, aimed at determining the energy consumption rates and operational requirements, are done.
The internal combustion engine will then be removed and the new system including fuel cells, a battery pack (for peak-shaving and emergency power), an electric motor and hydrogen storage will be installed on board.
Future Proof Shipping and its partners plan to introduce their first hydrogen inland vessel by the end of 2020.
