The UK port operator signed a contract with Damen Shipyards for the delivery of an ASD Tug 2312. It will operate as part of the Forth Estuary Towage operation, conducting towage work at various Forth Ports locations as well as providing towage services to other external customers in Scotland.

Due to its enormous power of 70 tonnes bollard pull and compact size, the ASD 2312 will provide the opportunity to service emerging markets such as decommissioning and offshore wind. High maneuverability, achieved thanks to a twin fin skeg and dual azimuth thrusters, will also come in handy in these environments.

Increased safety was an important point during the development process. The wheelhouse offers 86% window coverage, using impact resistant safety glass, allowing for greater visibility. At the same time, the deck has been kept obstacle free, reducing tripping hazards. The winch is located under the superstructure, which not only frees up space, but also facilitates towing operations both forward and aft.

Environmental requirements where also taken into account, the vessel being IMO Tier 3 ready. Emissions are further reduced due to its rounded bilge and a NOx reduction system that can be applied to IMO Tier 3 ready vessels for full compliance. It can also be outfitted with remote monitoring systems, providing performance and maintenance data.

Since Forth Ports requires the ASD 2312 to become operational as soon as possible, Damen provided them with an ASD Tug 2811 Pioneer as a replacement during the construction period.
