APM Terminals Vado Ligure, scheduled to come online in 2019, has received its first batch of automated rail mounted gantry cranes, the first such machinery to be used in Italy.
The gantries will be mounted lengthways along 600 m-long rails. They'll be able to handle up to six stacked containers.
These six cranes, out of 21 to be delivered in total, were shipped out of China in January. The new equipment will be remotely operated and monitored from a control room.
"This is another key step towards the completion of the new Vado Ligure Terminal, a facility where human resources and the latest technology combine to ensure an effective, safe and environmentally friendly service for international markets," Paolo Cornetto, APM Terminals S.p.A. Managing Director, said.
