The new construction will take the form of a two-storey building with a capacity for 5k passengers. It should be ready for the opening of the 2022 cruise season.
Walkways will provide passengers with a safe transfer between their ship and the new terminal. Construction will include dedicated parking areas and roads. The new terminal will be DGNBcertified, a recognised international system for sustainable and green construction projects. It will also feature shore power connectivity, similar to the existing cruise terminals at Oceankaj.
These will continue to operate after the completion of the new facilities in order to accommodate the ever growing number of passengers and size of the calling vessels.
Barbara Scheel Agersnap, CEO, Copenhagen Malmö Port, said, "As the public tender process is initiated for the new cruise terminal in Copenhagen, this represents an important milestone for us. We hope for a high level of interest and we feel there will probably be a lot of contractors who want to be involved in building a new, state of the art cruise terminal. We’ll know as early as the end of January which contractors have prequalified, and the winner will be announced in May."
