The Spanish terminal, located in Barcelona, will expand its hinterland connections through the collaboration with the Port of Bayonne, situated in the French region of New Aquitaine.

Bayonne wants to take a step forward in intermodality by implementing a cross-border door-to-door service, catering to importers and exporters in the Southwest of France, through BEST's logistics operator, Synergy, and the transport company GIMEX, based in Navarra.

Both parties will present the project at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Bayonne in the second half of February. It will allow the partners to get a better feel for the current needs of logistics operators on both sides of the border and identify potential future users.

The Port of Bayonne, traditionally specialised in bulk, will thus expand its services by offering container transport to and from all over the world. The decision should also account for increased sustainability, due to the combined use of rail and maritime services, thus limiting greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
