Meyer Werft, a Papenburg-based group of shipyards, and the Dutch University of Groningen have teamed up to expand the interaction between the business and science worlds.
The two will launch the Innovation Lab Papenburg – Groningen 2018-2050, which will focus on issues related to IT, sustainability, and energy efficiency.
Among other things, the Lab's first projects will be centred around building an intelligent value chain in the cruise industry, establishing a globally recognised and standardised reporting method in relation to cruise ship sustainability standards, as well as researching the fields of innovative fuels, efficient drive systems, and renewable energy generation.
The so-called "future spaces" will be set up in both Papenburg and Groningen from where all the project activities will be coordinated.
