Seafarers Matter. International Maritime Organization (IMO), by Karine Langlois

On June 25th, the United Nations will once again mark the annual Day of the Seafarer (DotS).

Day of the Seafarer was established in a resolution adopted by the 2010 Diplomatic Conference in Manila.

Its purpose is to recognize the unique contribution made by seafarers from all over the world to international seaborne trade, economy, and civil society as a whole.

Even though seafaring can provide the basis for a fulfilling and satisfying life-long career, it is still a difficult and demanding job.
