B-8380 Zeebrugge
Belgium
The Port of Zeebrugge's location makes it possible to serve the markets of continental Europe as well as the British Isles. The emergence of containerisation and roro techniques resulted in creating a deepsea port in Belgium in the 70's. Its present structure dates from 1985 and is suitable for the largest ships.
The harbour is divided into four areas: Outer Port, Inner Port, Baudoin Canal and Bruges, and Transportzone Bruges. The terminals for high-speed traffic (containers and roro freight) are located in the Outer Port. The Inner Port consists mainly of terminals handling new cars, high & heavy loads, conventional loads, as well as distribution centres. The companies along the Baudouin canal and in the port of Bruges mainly handle building materials and agribulk. The Transportzone Zeebrugge houses transport companies and logistic service providers.
The regular container services connect the harbour with Middle and Far East, South America, Finland, Russia and other North Sea ports, while regular roro lines depart to Australia, New Zealand, America, West and South Africa, Far East, Mediterranean and a number of other European ports. Land access to the port is provided by rail connections and E34 and E403 motorways.
