Description:

Hallands Hamnar AB is Europe's newest port company, founded in 2013, after Varberg and Halmstad municipalities took the decision to merge their ports. Both companies have long been amongst the leaders in forestry products, especially timber, recycling, metals as well as imports of cars. Along with those, Halland offers services for containers, rail and roro.

The port of Halland is located within the so-called Nordic Triangle, which the EU has defined as one of its transport corridors of the future. The port in Halmstad, which spans over 45 ha, including 2 ha of storage space, features 3 km of quays with water depth up to 11 m and is equipped with 4 roro ramps. Each year around 1,000 ships of maximum length of 200 m call at Halmstad. Approximately 26,000 TEU is handled there annually. There are seven terminals located within the port: Nissakajen Quay, Eastern Harbour, Ironworks Quay, Kattegatt 500-, 600- and 700-quay as well as Oceanhamn 800-quay. Varberg spans over 300 ha with 60 ha of storage area, 12 ha of which is heated. Around 1,100 ships of maximum length of 230 m call each year, berthing at the 1,370 m long quay. The maximum depth in Farehammen terminal is 10 m, while in Industrial Harbour it amounts to 6.9 m. The port handles around 9,000 TEU yearly. The ports are located closely to the E6 motorway and roads 25, 26, 41 and 153. Terminal tracks to all quays provide easy and efficient access to rail transport. Shuttle trains depart daily to Mälardalen and Norrland.
