The Portuguese Port of Setúbal is situated on the Sado Estuary, surrounded by the Arrábida Mountains. Altogether 8.1 mln tn of freight were handled in 2014 in the harbour.
There are five rail and road-linked sea terminals in Setúbal, specialized in handling break bulk, ro-ro, containers and reefers, while other cargo facilities are located along the Sado River.
The Port of Setúbal's main focus is on short-sea shipping and the port authority is now working on deepening the port's waters to 12.5 m, which will in turn help Setúbal in becoming the national leader in the ro-ro sector.
