The Port of Rostock, a former member of the Hanseatic League, is located in northeastern Germany in Mecklenburg-Western Pomarania state. After the mid-1990s redevelopment, port's ability has been increased to take in ships of up to 100,000 dwt, making it Germany's deep-water leader. Rostock has abilities to handle various kinds of freight including heavy lift, dry and breakbulk cargo, oils, fuels as well as paper and ro-ro. The most notable commodities are steel products, nonferrous materials, plaster boards, projects cargo and cement.
As for logistics facilities, Port of Rostock provides in total 105,000 m² open storage as well as three quay sheds, available for distribution, storage and value added services. As Germany’s largest Baltic cargo port, Rostock holds the proud name of the biggest passenger port in the country with 2.4 mln of passenger in 2013. A number of liner services links the harbour with destinations in Scandinavia, UK, The Netherlands, Spain and United States. In addition, more than 30 intermodal trains operate weekly between Rostock and Verona, Hamburg, Karlsruhe, Brno, Novara, Domodossola and Wels. North-south motorway A19 and west-east motorway A20 provide a direct access to the port.
