The freight & pax Port of Melilla is located east of the Strait of Gibraltar, in one of Spain’s north Africa enclaves (bordering exclusively with Morocco), making the harbour a true window for the city and its inhabitants.
In 2013, nearly 1 mln of goods was handled in Melilla port, out of which general cargo accounted for 93% (incl. 35,800 TEU as well as 146,600 vehicles). Melilla is also a major passenger port, as 783,595 travellers went through Melilla’s quays in 2013.
In addition, Melilla is a free tax port, providing various tax and customs advantages to those using the harbour for their exports/imports.
