The Port of Amsterdam is one of the world’s main logistics hubs and Western Europe’s fourth-largest port with an annual cargo transhipment of more than 95 mln tn.
The Port of Amsterdam has facilities for handling, storing and transhipping all types of freight, starting from cocoa beans, through paper to oil products. Moreover, a lot of commodities are processed in the port area, like oil products converted into petrol, or beans, grains and vegetable oils processed into semi-finished products for the food and pharmaceutical industries.
To encourage sustainable mobility, Port of Amsterdam is working on a shift of the transport from road to rail and water. Its target for the year 2020 is to diminish road transport to 46% and increase water and rail transport to 49% and 6% respectively.
