The Port of A Coruña is located at the very tip of north-west Spain by the Atlantic Ocean. In 2014, the port handled as much as 11.61 mln tn, an advance by 2% year-on-year.
A Coruña specializes in liquids, which constitutes approx. 56% of its annual handlings (6.26 mln tn in 2014), followed by dry bulk, which accounted for 4.31 mln tn in 2014, while general cargo stood for the remaining 1.04 mln tn. Additionally, the port's pax terminal handled 130 thou. travellers.
Today, the bulk of cargo handlings in A Coruña takes place in the inner port, which includes a petrol terminal (four jetties of 11-16 m deep for petrol products and bioethanol), three dry bulk docks (agri-food products, coal and coke, aluminium oxide and quartz) as well as general cargo facilities (iron and steel, wood products and containers). Additionally, the Transatlánticos Dock has been serving pax traffic since 2011.
Since 2012, the port authority has been focusing on the construction and developement of the outer port to meet the demand. First and foremost, the outer port will offer three jetties with 10 mooring points suitable for VLCC vessels as well as 250 ha of onshore area for establishing other port businesses.
