Naples' underground wagons arrive at home

The Grimaldi Group transported the first six of 114 units onboard the ro-ro vessel Eurocargo Roma. They arrived at the Port of Naples after a short journey from the Spanish Port of Sagunto. Handling of the wagons was carried out with the use of special rail-equipped platforms, supplied by Multitrade.

First of Naples metro fleet's new reinforcements were divided into groups of three different units, with a width of 2.90 m and a height of 3.59 m to 3.80 m. The length of the three types of wagons varies between 17.38 m and 18.55 m, and the weight of each ranges from 28 to 30 tonnes.

Eurocargo Roma, the vessel chosen for the delivery, has a loading capacity of over 3.8k linear meters of rolling stock and 150 cars. She can handle cargo units up to 120 tonnes through the stern ramp, making it a great fit for the job. All 114 wagons, ordered by the Basque company Construcciones y Auxiliar de Ferrocarriles (CAF), will be transported from Spain onboard Grimaldi vessels, as part of a project lasting until March 2022.

The group operates a dense network of motorways of the sea between Italy and Spain for the transport of rolling freight (cars, vans, trucks, semitrailers, etc.) and passengers. The ports directly served are Cagliari, Civitavecchia, Livorno, Porto Torres, Salerno and Savona in Italy, and Barcelona, Sagunto and Valencia in Spain.
