Three more STS cranes will bring the total along the 850 m long quay to eight, ensuring that two ships can be handled at the same time.

What's more, Peel Ports will add 10 more cantilever rail mounted gantries (CRMGs) in still-to-be-prepared backlands, so the terminal will have the capacity to handle two 380 m long vessels simultaneously.

There will also be additional reefer points installed to allow the terminal to handle greater quantities of refrigerated containers at the Port of Liverpool.

"This is an important step in the development of Liverpool2 and reflects our confidence and our long-term commitment to positioning the North of England as a competitive route to international markets and a major port for global trade," Mark Whitworth, CEO of Peel Ports, said.

Peel Ports Group opened Liverpool2 last November with five STS cranes and 12 semi-automated cantilvered RMGS in the yard, serving the whole 850 m long quay.
