The Amsterdam-based shipping company has contracted the Zhejiang Ouhua Shipbuilding for delivering six new multipurpose vessels.
The 18 thou. tn dwt vessels of 165 m overall length will fit the requirements of the new R-Class, as well as have been designed in accordance with the Polar Code, making them ready for Arctic operations. Moreover, they will be optimized for fuel efficiency, environmental footprint and equipped with scrubbers for compliance with existing emission control areas.
With a hold length of over 100 m and combinable heavy lift cranes, the vessels are suitable to operate in the specialized break-bulk market of heavy and oversize cargo. The accommodation, incl. the navigation bridge, is situated at the bow end of the vessel and ultra-long pieces of, e.g. windmill equipment will be well-protected when carried on deck.
The first vessel of the series, Raamgracht, is scheduled to be delivered in January 2019, followed, in regular intervals of two months, by her sisters Realengracht, Reguliersgracht, Rijpgracht, Ringgracht, and Rozengracht.
