Located on the northern shore of the Gulf of Finland, 82 km from Tallinn and 300 km from St. Petersburg, Helsinki – the Finnish capital– is home to the country’s primary international sea port, which handles over a half of Finland's imports. Port of Helsinki specializes in unitized cargo services for Finnish foreign trade companies. Its strength lies in regular and frequent ship traffic combined with efficient stevedoring operations. It operates in the heart of the city and in the Vuosaari area, each playing its own role in the overall port business.
Vuosaari Harbour is the centre of container and ro-ro traffic. Passenger traffic is mostly concentrated in the South Harbour as well as the West Harbour, where cargo transported by ferries also received. In 2013, the number of passenger exceeded 11,000. Being a part of North Sea-Baltic Corridor as well as Rail Baltica axis, the port is easily accessible both by cars and trains. The motorway of the sea between Helsinki and Tallinn is one of the busiest maritime routes in the Baltic Sea Region. Additionally, the harbour provides regular services to a huge variety of destinations all over the world.
